Although winter would appear to be a long way off, it might just be time to get your makeup bag out and transform it for the right colors and shades that will take you right through summer into winter. Pinks, pastels and bright shades can be mixed and matched for the summer months but in reality you cannot get away with such bright looks for the winter. Thankfully, these are easily changed to meet the winter expectations.

First of all, pink shades of lipstick can be mixed with darker shades for a plum look that goes well in every winter season. Matte is usually the trend for winter but this doesn’t mean that you have to go for it and you can always apply your summer lip gloss over the top for a more glitzy effect. The same really applies for the eye makeup. Pinks are very much in right now for the summer but when you add plum shades to the eye socket and a bit of black eyeliner, the look can easily be worked with any winter outfit for almost any occasion.
The most basic way to look at winter makeup trends for 2009 is to look at the stuff that you wore for the autumn of 2008. The look is pretty much the same with plums and greens combined with smoky grey eyes and plenty of eye liner. Why not try incorporating this with the summer makeup that you have for a look that is slightly more unique but still fashionable and is bound to get heads turning for all of the right reasons!

Acne is a very basic term for a rather embarrassing skin condition that provides a lot of pain and discomfort in many ways for the millions of people that are unlucky enough to suffer from it. Acne is basically when the pores of the skin become plugged, if you like, and can occur on the face, which is one of the most common places that it can arise as well as other parts of the body such as the shoulders, neck and also the back.

There are many age groups that will suffer from acne although for the most part it is something that happens during puberty and is grown out of. For the unlucky people however, it can carry on through into adult life and cause much discomfort.
One of the most common factors that cause acne is hormonal changes within the body. However, excess oil that clogs up the pores can also cause it and the bad news is that it can cause permanent scarring which is very difficult and sometimes impossible to get rid of. There are four main words that you may have heard that are closely appreciated with acne; Pimples, cysts, blackheads and whiteheads. These are all different types of spots which can accumulate and make up acne but they all have one thing in common – excess oil and dirt that clogs up the pores and causes pus filled sacs which then turn white, red or black depending on the type that is causing it. The majority of the places in which acne occurs are the areas in which oil production is at its highest. This is why the face, back and neck are the most susceptible places as they have more oil glands than other areas of the body.

If you have acne then you may need to know about a few tips and tricks that can help keep it under control and reduce the appearance of both the redness and the spots. Of course high standards of hygiene is essential to make sure that acne spots do not flare up so much and this means that washing your face with water alone or a safe face cleanser is important but not over washing as this can actually make the problem worse.

There is a lot of information that you can find out about acne skin care tips from places such as your doctor and the internet and it can be hard to work out which tips apply to you as some of them can be contradictory. Some places will tell you not to use moisturizer at all whereas other sites may inform you to use specific ones. The thing is to try both tips and see which one works for you. It is a good idea to avoid oily skin products as these can build up with your own excess oil production and therefore cause the pimples rather than avoid them. The same applies to oily hair, try to keep this away from the face by wearing it pulled back or try to wash your hair on a more regular basis.
Moisturizers should only be used if they are not oily and are the right type for your skin. There are some that you can buy specifically for skin that suffers with acne and it is a good idea to invest in these if you can. The same applies to makeup and other products that you would use on your skin and you should clean your makeup brushes regularly as these can spread infections which can make the acne worse.

Acne scars that appear once acne has gone or died down is just one of the things that many sufferers of the embarrassing skin condition feel most uncomfortable about. They are the one thing that will stay with you once the acne has gone, usually after puberty and they can be very difficult and in some cases rather impossible to get rid of. There are things that you can do to try and prevent the scarring from occurring such as refraining from picking or squeezing your acne spots but sometimes these scars can happen regardless of how well that you look after your skin.

There are a couple of simple treatments that you can have to get rid of acne scars and one of these is a chemical peel. This is a milder treatment than some of the options that are out there and can be done in a small amount of time. You can also have microdermabrasion as another way to get rid of acne scars and for more details on these, you can always have a look on the internet or speak to a medical professional to figure out how to go about these treatments.
If the acne scars that you have are particularly bad then you can try more severe treatments such as laser treatment such as resurfacing with lasers. This is something that can only really be done by a doctor or when a doctor has referred you to a dermatologist. This is a form of treatment that the time is not set for and for some cases will take a few minutes but in others will take an hour or so.
The one thing that you will have to remember about getting ready of acne scars is that the acne itself will have to be under some sort of control before any treatment can begin. There are some creams and lotions that can help with reducing the appearance of scars but then again, these will only be of some use when the acne itself has been controlled.

If you are looking for some natural remedies to try and deal with your acne then you may be relieved to know that there are a few methods and natural treatments that you can use. Some of these methods may seem a little farfetched but you must remember that a lot of them have been passed down through the generations and therefore must have worked somewhere down the line!

One of the most natural things that you can do to try and keep your acne under control is to wash your face regularly, but not too regularly to get rid of any sweat and dirt that may be waiting to clog up your pores. A simple rinse with luke warm water and you can wash away some of the grime that can accumulate to cause acne spots.
Avocado is something that a lot of people have had success with over the years and mixing the fruit of the avocado into a paste and then pasting over the skin after it has mixed with a little water is something that many people have opted for. This must be rinsed well however as any leftover fruit that is left on the face can clog the pores and actually make the skin condition worse.
Lavender is well known for being a great flower for many things and when used as a compress against the skin can actually help to relieve a lot of the inflammation and redness associated with acne. This means that even the when the spots are flaring; you can still look great as the area will not be quite so red. Cucumbers are another thing that can apparently help with this and you can juice the cucumber to use the liquid.
There are many herbal remedies that you can use to fight acne and although some of them may not work, a few of them might so it is definitely worth giving a go if you are at the end of your tether.
Dealing With Acne

Acne is not something new to most of us. Many people and especially teens find this a very annoying and a very embarrassing problem. While there are some decent treatments for acne issues, not everybody has the time or the money to go for many of these specialized programs.
However, apart from going to your dermatologist for help, you can take help from these remedies. Here are a few of them.
- Do not pop acne pimples - While you might have heard this several times from several people, it is the most common mistake that anybody with acne makes. As far as possible, you should try not to squeeze or even touch your acne, especially so with dirty hands. If you think squeezing out the puss will solve your problem then you are mistaken; it will only give rise to more. It will make your healing process extend even longer as well.
- Keep your face clean - It is very important to maintain a proper hygiene for your face. This will not only help to clear up your acne but also prevent any new breakouts. Using soap-free and oil-free cleansers will also help.
- Keep your face moisturized - After you wash your face, always remember to moisturize it well with a good brand of an oil-free moisturizer. If you keep your face moisturized, your skin will not need to produce that extra oil and hence, that will make it less prone to breakouts. There are plenty of oil-free moisturizers in the marketplace. You just need to find one that suits your type of skin and the severity of your acne.
- Take proper precautions - Don’t always go for any new product that might make big claims or have a big name. It is important to be sure before you start using any product. You can use topical creams for this problem. However, make sure that you are not allergic to any by first using it on a little part of the face, such as behind the ear.
- The acne fighters, like benzoyl peroxide and salicylic acid are very effective in healing acne, but they do cause skin dryness. When you use them, follow-up with a good moisturizer that is free of oil, but has good moisturizing properties. Sometimes a good, natural-based moisturizer like aloe vera would be a good choice.
When nothing seems to work…..
Remember, any remedy will take some time to show results. Sticking with a regimen for at least 6 weeks is recommended to start seeing results. Therefore, do not give up so easily. Give it some time. However, if nothing seems to be working for your type of acne, even though you are waiting enough, then it might be time to schedule a visit with your dermatologist who might be able to help.
